This scent'formation is a bit more about each of our scents, why we chose it, and it is a guide. We entertain custom requests for scents and our customers have been the reason why some scents come to be. There is more to a scent than we know, but the reasons may not be what you expect. Odors do affect people's mood, work performance and behavior in a variety of ways but it isn't because odors work on us like a drug, instead we work on them through our experiences with them. Basically, in order for an odor to elicit any sort of response in you have to first learn to associate it with some event. It's pretty powerful!

This Scent'Formation is broken down into Essential, Fragrance, and Naturally Derived scents. What does that mean for you? Well, if you are sensitive to fragrance oils, you may do very well with an Essential or Naturally Derived Oil. Some folks cannot walk into a bath/beauty store without breaking into a sneezing fit. I cannot use perfumey products. I can use most cosmetic grade fragrance oils and essential oils because along with the scent, there are not other unnecessary sensitizers in Lather & Lace products....

One last fact about EO's vs FO's. Scent works on the primal levels in our brains that affect emotions. Essential Oils can have very healing effects beyond a pleasurable or relaxing emotion. I have tried to indicate all of these where they should be. I believe that a fragrance oil of Apple or Vanilla can have some pretty powerful influences over our emotions too! Think Grandma's pies baking!

One last note. Not ALL scents are made in each product. Some scents to not survive the Soapmaking process due to the high temperatures, and some oils make a great soap, but are not necessarily great for using as a lotion. If you do not find your scent in all products, that may be why. Feel free to write if there is something you do not see, that you would like to see!

On with the descriptions! I will indicate EO/FO/NDO (Naturally derived oil)

untitled-2.png

After The Cold Rush - An invigorating blend of Rosemary and Peppermint Essential Oils, we called this after the cold rush because it leaves a cool tingle on your skin. Loved by men and women alike. Perfect after a hard day's work. Both of these essential oils are known for being uplifting and are said to ease headaches (perfect in a shower letting the oils waft around you) - E

An Ounce Of Performance - (is Worth A Pound Of Promises (~Mae West) )- This was called Almond Joy, but, I wanted something more in the mood of L & L! This almond is rather intoxicating. A deep cherry smelling almond that is available in all products except the Belly Up To The Bar Soap. It is only available in Ace In The Hole liquid soap and the Artisan Glycerin Soaps (F)

A Roll In The Hay -  We were asked to replicate the scent of alfalfa and hay fields while in bloom and we set out to try. While I think we hit the newly mown hay field scent, I believe we need a bit more floral to get the field in bloom scent but this is definitely a green, clean scent that is a good seller. Not available in Belly Up To The Bar but is available in an Artisan Glycerin Soap. -F

Bourbon Vanilla - A heady blend of Vanilla, Musk, notes of Cedar with a twist of lemon. Recently in high demand (Since September) would tell me that its a great cooler weather scent. It is complex, and very sexy. The only soap this is available in, is Ace In The Hole liquid soap. (E/F)

Cactus Dew - A fresh green herbal/floral blend with a Southwestern twist to it. This scent gets better with time. We made Cactus Dew - Dew Drops, then opened the jar about a month later and they had mellowed into the most beautiful scent for a bath. Cactus Dew is available in all products except Belly Up To The Bar soaps. -F

Can't Elope - This soap reminds me of not wearing white before Memorial Day. Why? It's such a delicious smell, you want to use it all year round but it clearly reminds you of a succulently ripe, freshly sliced summer Cantelope, with a splash of kiwi. Available in everything but Belly Up To The Bar Soap. - F

Caramel Apple - The county fair, the big decision between the crisp red sweet apple, or the decadent, rich, caramel apple. It's fall, and you decide that going for the caramel apple is a perfect choice and you were right. Sticky sweet, yet balanced out by the crisp juicy apple. This is ONLY available in Belly Up To The Bar Soaps - F

Cherry Crush - NEW! Oooodaaaalaaaliiii is all we can say about the new Cherry Crush. One great big juicy bite of an extremely ripened sweet cherry is really all we can say. No almond scent to it, nothing else - just true cherry! Available in all products except a Belly Up To The Bar Soap. It is available in a darling Artisan Glycerin Soap.

Cool As A Cowgirl - You know this woman, she waits her turn, her eyes in the zone. Her horse flinches its skin but she remains calm, cool, collected. Lavender calms the nerves, peppermint for clarity. Isn't that exactly what you need? What we love about Cool As A Cowgirl is that after a hard day's work, your skin gets a bit of a zing - not just clean. --- Yeah, she's cool. And, she's gonna whip ya. No denying it. Never gonna break a sweat doin it either! - E

Don't Bait Me - What's in a name? For Don't Bait Me, its more than meets the eye. Most of them are little known, handy secrets that we thought you may want to know! The first time I made this was actually an exchange with a dear person who I know call a friend. She lives on the opposite coast, in the Pacific Northwest, but she makes pottery and she asked me to make her Anise soap in exchange for soap dishes. She explained to me the appeal of the Anise to the local fisherman. If you google anything about Anise and fisherman, you will discover that people soak soap in Anise Oil and use it as bait for fish. It is also used as an attractant when people bait their hooks because otherwise, your lures can smell like beer, sunscreen, cigars, cigarettes, or whatever happens out on the boat! We like it because Anise actually acts as an anti-hysteric, with sedative, calming qualities. So you can deal with those folks that get under your skin. Don't let them BAIT you!

Fancy Umbrella Drink - Think Pina Colada! Think those foo foo drinks made of banana, coconut, and pineapple with the little umbrella's adorns the glass. It's Friday night at the local Rockabilly hotspot. You're with your girls and you have on your best jeans and a new pair of Lucchese. You look amazing. Beer and Whiskey flow freely but the bartender (that amazing hot guy with the gigantic biceps is walking towards your table of girl friends with a tray full of those tall glasses with the Fancy Umbrella's. He can pull it off because he for one, he is all man, and two, he is bringing it to a table of hotties! That is the smell :) Available in all products - F

Fresh - Sometimes you take a big inhale of something and it brings things to your mind like fresh rain, fresh snow, the woods...This most definitely brought about the scent of "FRESH". Think of getting a delicious healthy meal together. You peel a fresh orange while squirts of absolute citrusy clean scent fills the space....then, you slice a fresh cucumber and that scent wafts up from the cutting board to remind you of just how healthy this all is going to be. Clean. Fresh. Healthy. This scent falls into the "Naturally Derived Oils". It comes from the source but it is not distilled as in an essential oil, nor is it a fragrance oil. It is a naturally derived scent. It is a Lather & Lace favorite. Available in all products except Belly Up To The Bar. (NDO)

Good Earth - This soap has been in my soap inventory for 15 years. One of the first scents I made in fact and it has remained in the top sellers this whole time. It is my own blend of Sandalwood, Cinnamon, Lemon, Blood Orange and other proprietary oils. It is popular year round with both men and women. It is earthy, but spicy. Strong enough, but definitely not pungent. A great smell year round. Available in all products. - E

Half Moon Bay- As with each scent we make, it begins with an inspiration. In this case, it is my love for the sea. The ocean has the power to shift your mood, lift the weight of the world off your shoulders, and move your soul. It leaves you refreshed when you leave. The scent itself is naturally derived from Bladderack and Seaweed Powder. It has hints of greens, pines, and a touch of musk. The soap smelled so good, so special, I asked customers to share with me a memory of a special time when they rode on the beach. A dear "online" friend shared that her most special memory was riding on Half Moon Bay "on her first date with her now husband. I knew the soap had a name. Only available in Belly Up To The Bar.

Harvest - When I was a little girl, the only thing that softened the fact that summer was ending was the annual Harvest festival! Much like a county fair, there were scents that filled the air which could only come from harvested deliciousness like all things pumpkin. There were stalls upon stalls of baked pumpkin breads, pies, and all of the amazing spices that went into them. This soap is dedictated to that time in my life and this year, it's got a bit of a new twist. Pure Pumpkin Pie soap with crumbled appearing nutty spicey on top!  Seasonal/Only available in Belly Up To The Bar Soap. (E/F)

'HEMI'ingway~ This fresh, nearly irresistable scent is a mysterious, intriguing combo of Bergamot and Egyptian Coriander. At first blush, I smelled a light scent. But, it made me want a second sniff! Now, I nearly want to hold it to my nose all the time because it is complex and lovely...quite like the old guy who he gets his name from. $1.00 of the sale of each of this goes to TBAR (True Blue Animal Rescue) for offsetting the care of these displaced animals. Check out Windstar also! (E)

Hey Sugar - A rather well known bath company made the scent Warm Vanilla Sugar popular but we added our own twist to it. We think it will turn heads as you go by :) Its been in our inventory for over 10 years and stays a strong seller year in and out! Available in all products except Belly Up To The Bar soaps.

I Found My Thrill On Blueberry Hill - There is always one bar of soap in the line that is pure Olive Oil because of how good it is for your sensitive skin. Olive oil has been used since ancient times for healing wounds. Its gentle, hydrating properties coupled with Blueberry Butter, are a winning combination for treating sensitive skin, sensibly. There is also yogurt inside for extra creamy goodness!  I have people who come pick this up every three or so months just to stay stocked up. If you are plagued by burning, itchy, rashy skin, try finding your Thrill - On Blueberry Hill ;) Only in soap.  (F)

Indigo Girl - This soap was first intended to help provide balance to women and support the hormonal swings that are just a part of being a woman. The essential oils of Rose, Chamomile, Geranium, and Bergamot were specifically selected to support the emotional highs and lows while other ingredients, like yogurt and milk, were added just for the yummy softness needed for when you climb out of that saddle and into something soft and silky! It changed names from Luna Latte to Indigo Girl because of sort of people who have been attracted to buying it. So called "Indigo Children" have been here since the early pioneers and wayshowers. They had enterprising spirits and seemed wise beyond their years. Today, the waves of Indigo Children born since that time, have grown to be Indigo Adults. Indigos have a warrior spirit, because their collective purpose is to mash down old systems that no longer serve us. They are here to quash government, educational, and legal systems that lack integrity. To accomplish this end, they (at times) need tempers and fiery determination. At the end of the day, one must always return to their center and replenish. So, this soap had a name overhaul from Luna Latte to Indigo Girl - because your Cowgirl Spirit, your Warrier, your resilient spirit, must be nurtured. So while the name has changed, the essence of the soap never has! Available in all of our products. (E)

Lavender Fields - Nothing like running your hands over the stalk of a lavender plant and getting that fresh, fresh scent on your hands. Freshly made, this soap is and has been on my top five list for 15 years. Known for its relaxing qualities, Lavender Fields is available in all of our products. This year, many of you have been discovering that Moonshine Mist in Lavender is great to have in your saddle bag. Perfect for you and your horse when its time to "chill". Great to mist your pillows with also! - E

Lavender Lemongrass (Now called Get Hitched - a perfect union of Lavender and Lemongrass) - Lavender and lemongrass does not need much said for it really. It's so doggone perfect, it's hard to put into words. It's fresh. It's clean. It's invigorating, yet soothing to inhale deeply. If you have a long day's work ahead of you, its great to shower with. If you are in the middle of a long day's work, it is incredible to put on your hands. And, if you have worked a long day, and want to relax but regain some clarity...it's there. Nuff said. :) -E

Long Cool Drink - Sitting on that front porch swing, feet dangling, big glass of tea, with a fresh slice of ------screeeechhhh MANGO? Yes, Mango! In your TEA! This scent is like sunshine in a glass and you are sippin' it all in! So cheerful and stays up in the top sellers! (F)

Mulled Cider - It's that time of year again when the world says HELLO to Mulled Cider! We have people who start asking when it's going to be ready and people who ask why we end it for a few seasons. When you sniff, you know. It reminds you of fall. And we honor the fall by putting it away for spring and summer! Apples, cinnamon sticks, a splash of spices. Its delicious. SEASONAL/TOP FIVE SOAPS EVER! -F

Noel - all things Christmas! The smell of the tree and the slight scent of cinnamon make this bar just an absolute treat to have out in your bathroom over the holidays. It is so homey and familiar! Men LOVE it! Seasonal (E/F)

Nuts About You - Yes we are nuts about you! Coconut and lemongrass is fresh and clean, with just enough coconut to know it is there, but not too sweet. Enough lemongrass to make it clean. We love it in EVERY product. It never seems to go out of season either because the heat of your skin seems to change the way it emits the scent and in summer in seems a bit nuttier than in the winter. Available in all products -F

Pink Shugah - I have to laugh at this description because I used a knock off of Victoria's Secret, Love Spell and then adapted it with a few things to make it my own. Well, while reading what is in the original VS scent (peach, mango, strawberry, coconut milk, apple blossom but well blended with vanilla and musk but I changed it up a bit) I read in the fragrance description that one should not go to the VS site because Bosom's are flying everywhere. So, what do you do when someone says that? You go look! Are you laughing yet? Well, as I was there, I mean, there is a big red bow that is pretending to be underwear. I am just sayin' this smells super good. I cannot imagine wearing that big red bow under my jeans, but I guess it would work with my apron. Pink Shuga began in JUST the Boot Scrubbin Boogie (Pink Sugar) but everyone wanted it in everything and now it is in everything but Belly Up To The Bar. -F

Playin Dirty - This is available only in a Belly Up To The Bar Soap. It isn't so much about the scent as it is the experience. The scent is pure Peppermint. The bar is peppermint and activated charcoal - a great detox bar. -E

Pucker Up - A sweetheart of a mix with our favorites Lavender, Orange, and Tangerine. Pucker Up is the life of the party. It's perky, it's fresh, and like a best friend, it'll cheer you up! Available in all products. - E

Rockies - You ride the trail somewhere in the lowlands of the mountain. It's a long trail ride but its simply beautiful as you smell the wild lavender, the cypress and juniper bushes along the way and when you get to the top, there is the crisp snap in the air that is peppermint. Only available in Belly Up To The Bar soaps. -E

Rosie - Rose flowers date back so far in history as the flower of beauty, romance, passion... Some of us smelled old Rose Water from the frugal days when our grannies kept theirs long past its shelf life and that turned some people off of Rose as a scent. BUT, think of receiving a dozen roses at the door. Long stemmed, fresh roses. Now we are talkin! This is the smell I am talking about when I say Lather & Lace makes killer Rose products. Fresh flowers. Give Rose another try. In fact, head over to the face care and get some Rose Toning Mist! -F

Sacred Space- Anyone who has spent anytime with the Native American's is familiar with "smudging"  or cleansing the body of negative thoughts, energy, or bad energy. This was done by "washing" the smoke of burning herbs around the body. The three most common herbs that this is done with are Sage, Cedar, and Sweetgrass. And there comes the name! We find the Cedar to be quite soft, not sharp. Its a beautiful scent and perfect for men and women. It used to smell very much like Christmas to me but I love it year round. Let the sunshine onto any forest floor to heat up the balsam and cedar trees, and that's what this reminds me of. Available in all products. -E/O

Shake Rattle and Roll -  Zest best describes this soap. A zest for life, a zest for a blast in the shower! Just pure zest, Zippy White Grapefruit saturates Lavender and it is a LOVE FEST ! It will make you want to dance in the shower! (coming soon!)

Sow Your Oats- Sow your oats! Go on! We made this good old fashioned scent the old fashioned way and then, much like anything else, we had to "kick it up a notch" and give it our own twist and so you have the warmth of oatmeal, milk, honey and a secret ingredient to give it our seal! Hope you love it! -F

Spirit Horse - My first bar of this soap was when my son was away on a weekend in Ohio and brought me back a natural soap sold by a vendor. Since I could never find the vendor, I had to set out and make it myself because I was addicted from the start. Initially, I knew it was Basil and Mint so the road was short because my oil company sold this mix. A few years later they stopped and now I produce my own. Its spicy and minty and wild and cooling and oh so loved by Cowgirl and Cowboy alike! - E

Spirits - This Belly Up To The Bar only soap is a shaving soap - inspired by my visits to Jerome and Prescott Arizona and the old saloons there. Not only that but a friend once teased my about having Scotch Whiskey in soap. I set out to make a shaving bar, just to keep old traditions alive, and I decided to boil down whiskey, just to get that rich scent into the soap. Of course there was some beer that slipped in there too! And then there was clay, to make the beard stand up....

Well, you get the picture, there was a whole lotta spirits, and in honor of the SPIRITS of those towns, a skull bears the front cover of this bar. I ONLY use this to shave with now because it is so much better than shaving cream. And, my friend has his Scotch Soap, and the men of Jerome and Prescott have a soap in their honor. :) -E

Sweet N Sassy - I am amazed no one caught this blunder! I left off one of the most cherished scents of my first year in Lather & Lace! Spicy Ginger meets Blood Orange for a HOT HOT HOT scent. Straight out of the same family as Untamed, Pucker Up, and you can count on being snapped out of whatever doldroms you are in! (F/E)

Tack Room - Patchouli. Naked as a jay bird. No other scent. I call it love or hate scent much like the Don't Bait Me, but its pretty doggone sexy. (E)

Untamed - Untamed is one of a few scents taking L & L by storm. It lights up a shower like a firecracker! A sassy, saucy combo of Valencia Orange, Bergamot, Tangerine Zest, Tart Cassis, Orange Juice, Neroli, Ground Pepper, Fiery Chili Pepper, and Sheer Musk. When I say MUY CALIENTE, I mean it!

Wild n Wonderful - It took too long for me to blend these two scents together and now they are coming together for some good times. Lemongrass and Patchouli are going to be holding hands in this new scent coming soon!

Wide Open Spaces - If you were ever in love with that big brand soap company's scent called Stress Relief or something along those lines, you will love Wide Open Spaces because it is based from that scent. Top notes of peppermint and spearmint are believed to reduce fatigue and increase mental alertness. Essential oils of lavender, clary sage, and juniperberry are considered to be calming and uplifting to the spirit. Accent notes of laurel leaf, coriander, mandarin, and menthol are topped of with a warm and woody drydown created from amber, sandalwood, jasmine, clove, pine needle, and opoponax resin. We think you will find yourself feeling like you are in the greatest place on earth, surrounded by nothing but big blue sky and fresh air. (E/N/F)

Windstar -  Our second bar of soap dedicated to the care and feeding of a horse by the same name, $1.00 of the sale of each of this goes to TBAR (True Blue Animal Rescue) for off-setting the care of these displaced animals. This scent will be announced any day now. (E)

Z'All Gone - Not so much a scent as it is just a name! Essential Oils of Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, and Lavender come together with some rockin great oils that are perfect for combatting acne. (E)
